Our Philosophy

Food with a first name and a zip code.

"We don't grow commodities. We grow dinner for people whose names we know." — Mara Okafor, Co-founder

Verdant began in a borrowed greenhouse outside Corvallis with four heirloom tomato varieties and a conviction that organic shouldn't mean anonymous. Thirteen harvests later, we steward a cooperative of 142 family farms across the Pacific Northwest, each vetted by hand and audited twice a year.

Every tote, jar, and meal kit that leaves our Portland pack house carries a QR traceback — not as marketing, but as accountability. You can read the farmer's name, see the rainfall the week your carrots were pulled, and know exactly which co-op pressed the olive oil in your pantry.

That transparency is only possible because we own the middle of the chain. No brokers. No repackers. No mystery layers between the field and your front door.

The four-step journey
from seedling to shelf.

Section 02 · Supply Chain
01

Soil & Seed

Partner farms plant only heirloom and open-pollinated seed in soil tested annually for heavy metals, organic matter, and microbial life.

02

Hand Harvest

Produce is picked at peak ripeness by farm teams paid above state agricultural wage — never by sub-contracted day labor.

03

Cold-Chain Pack

Within 18 hours, goods arrive at our Portland facility for inspection, washing in filtered well water, and traceability tagging.

04

Direct Delivery

Orders ship in reusable insulated totes via electric fleet to 11 western states — most reach the customer within 48 hours of harvest.
