A warm hello

We've been watching the build, and we'd love in.

Dear Mara and the Verana team — we've followed the rebuild on that headland since the first renderings made the rounds, and we keep coming back to the same thought: this place was made to be felt, not just shown. That's exactly the kind of work we live for.

Lantern Studio is a small brand photography and film studio. We work almost exclusively with boutique hotels and independent hospitality — the kind of properties where the room rate is really an invitation into a feeling. We don't do real-estate coverage. We build the image library a brand actually launches on: the website hero, the booking-funnel motion, the paid-social cutdowns, the press kit a journalist can pull straight from. One shoot, every channel, one coherent mood.

A launch only happens once. We'd be honored to help you make Verana's look like it already belongs to Big Sur.

Where you are right now

You open into a crowded, beautiful coastline.

A new boutique hotel on the Big Sur coast doesn't get a quiet introduction. From the first day bookings open, you're sharing a feed with a dozen properties travelers already trust — and the only thing standing between Verana and a scroll-past is the image that stops the thumb.

Here's what we hear from properties at exactly your stage: the website needs a hero that earns the rate, the booking funnel needs motion that keeps a hesitant guest moving toward checkout, paid social needs vertical cutdowns that feel native and still feel like you, and the press kit needs frames a travel editor can run without a phone call. Most launches solve these one at a time, with mismatched sources — and the brand arrives feeling assembled instead of authored.

The risk isn't bad photos. It's a beautiful place that looks like everywhere else. Big Sur's drama is your edge — the work has to carry it.

So the brief we'd hold ourselves to is simple: one cohesive, cinematic library — shot in the fog and the gold-hour light the property was designed around — that feeds every channel from a single visual voice. That's the problem we'd love to be trusted with.

How we work

We chase the weather, not the checklist.

Cinematic, atmospheric imagery isn't made by lighting a room evenly — it's made by waiting for the fog, scouting the window when the sun rakes the cliff, and shooting motion and stills off the same setup so they share a soul. Our process is built around that patience, and around staying close to your team the whole way.

01 · TUNE IN
Mood & shot plan

We build a shared reference deck and a tide-and-light schedule with you, so every frame on the call sheet has a reason and a moment.

02 · ON SITE
Two-day capture

A tight crew, available light favored, moving with the weather. Stills and short-form motion captured in tandem, never as an afterthought.

03 · HAND OFF
Channel-ready edit

A graded, consistent library cut and sized for site, funnel, social, and press — delivered organized, not as a raw dump.

You're in the loop, not in the dark. Daily selects on site, a shared review gallery, and a single point of contact from kickoff to final files.

We keep the crew small on purpose — fewer people, more presence, less disruption to a property that's still finishing its build. Guests and staff barely notice us; the camera does. That collaborative, low-footprint way of working is how we get rooms that feel lived-in and lit by the place itself.

Why Lantern

We've launched hotels like this before.

Our differentiator is simple and proven: a deep portfolio of boutique and luxury hospitality launches. We're not a generalist studio taking a hotel job — coastal properties, remote retreats, and design-forward inns are the work we do most.

“They shot our launch in two days of relentless fog — and somehow made the fog the whole point. Bookings opened on those images and never looked back.”
— GM, coastal boutique hotel, Mendocino

We also know the booking funnel, not just the camera. Because we deliver for the channels that actually convert — site, funnel, social, press — the work isn't just beautiful; it's built to earn the rate and keep a guest moving toward checkout. That combination of luxury-hospitality craft and channel-ready thinking is exactly what a launch like Verana's needs.
