Soundboard Repair & Rib Reconditioning
Removal of soundboard for inspection. Close all panel cracks with spruce shims, re-crown where necessary, re-glue failed ribs, and apply traditional shellac sealant. Bridge recapping included.

Complete Restringing
Full replacement of bass and treble strings using Röslau music wire and custom-wound Degen bass strings. New tuning pins (2/0 blued steel), agraffes polished, and chipping to stable pitch over three pullings.

Hammer Replacement & Action Regulation
Installation of a new set of Abel Natural hammers hand-fitted to each string. Full action regulation to Steinway factory specifications, including shank re-pinning, key bushings, and final voicing across all 88 notes.

Cabinet Refinishing — Satin Ebony
Strip existing finish to bare wood, grain-fill, and apply twelve coats of polyester lacquer hand-rubbed to a satin ebony finish. Original Steinway brass hardware polished and lacquered. Includes lid, rim, legs, and music desk.

Transport, Climate Staging & Final Delivery
White-glove pickup from Brookline residence, climate-controlled storage during rebuild, reinstallation, and two complimentary tuning visits at 30 and 90 days post-delivery.

A note on craft. All work is performed by hand in our Cambridge atelier. No component will be replaced without your written approval. Original Steinway parts that remain serviceable will be retained and returned to you at completion.

Project Timeline

Eight Weeks · Four Phases
Weeks 1–2
Disassembly & Assessment
Transport, documentation, stringing removal, and soundboard extraction.
Weeks 3–4
Soundboard & Belly Work
Crack repair, rib reconditioning, bridge recapping, and cabinet stripping.
Weeks 5–6
Refinishing & Restringing
Satin ebony lacquer application, full restring, and initial pitch raises.
Weeks 7–8
Regulation, Voicing & Delivery
Action installation, concert-level voicing, final tuning, and return to residence.
Payment Schedule
40% deposit to reserve workshop dates. 30% upon completion of belly work. Final 30% prior to delivery.
Warranty
Ten-year warranty on all new parts and labour. Two complimentary tunings included in first year of ownership.
Acceptance
Signature below authorises commencement of work as outlined. Scope changes will be submitted in writing for approval.
A concert grand of this lineage deserves to sing again. We would be honoured to return it to the stage it was built for.
