I am requesting reconsideration of my 2026–27 financial-aid award, which was calculated before a change in my family's circumstances that the FAFSA could not capture. On May 9, 2026, my father was laid off after fourteen years, reducing our household income by roughly $58,000 a year — a drop the application, based on 2024 tax data, does not reflect.
My current award assumes an Expected Family Contribution of $19,400, built on a household income of $92,000. Our realistic income for the coming year is now about $34,000 from my mother's salary alone, and we are covering my father's COBRA premiums while he searches for work. I have attached his separation letter, two recent pay stubs, and a signed statement of current circumstances.
I remain fully committed to my degree — I carry a 3.7 GPA and work twelve hours a week in the materials lab — and I want to keep my place in the program. I am asking the committee to reassess my need using our current income and to consider an increase in need-based grant aid for the coming year.
I would be grateful for a decision before the July 15, 2026 enrollment-deposit deadline, and I am glad to provide any further documentation the committee needs. You can reach me at (734) 555-0162 or [email protected], and I am happy to meet in person at your convenience. Thank you for taking the time to look at my situation.
