Make a Graduation Certificate That Actually Gets Framed

"Graduation certificate" covers a lot of ground. Some are intimate — a kindergarten teacher's hand-illustrated keepsake for 22 five-year-olds. Some are formal — a 200-year-old institution's parchment diploma with three deans' signatures. The design conventions span from playful to solemn, but they share a common DNA: institution at the top, recipient name in the largest type, what they did in the middle, signatures and date at the bottom.

Pick Your Level First

Before you describe the certificate to the AI, decide where on the formality spectrum you sit:

  • Preschool / kindergarten / elementary "moving up" — warm fonts, bright colors, often illustrative. Save photos for separate keepsakes; the certificate itself stays text-and-color.
  • Middle / high school graduation — semi-formal. School colors visible, traditional fonts, single signature usually (Principal). Often the first "real" certificate the student receives.
  • Associates and bachelor's degrees — formal. Institution seal, conferral language, 2-3 signatures (Dean, President), Latin honors if applicable. Frame-worthy by default.
  • Master's, MBA, PhD — most formal. Larger format sometimes, more signatures, heavier paper stock when printed.
  • Bootcamps, certificate programs, continuing education — design varies. Tech bootcamps often use modern minimalist designs; traditional certificate programs lean classical.

Describing It to the AI

The minimum description that produces a great certificate:

"[Level] graduation certificate for [Institution Name], conferred on [Date], signed by [Signer 1] ([Title]) and [Signer 2] ([Title]). School colors are [primary] and [secondary]. [Optional: institutional motto, special honors, ceremony name]"

If you want a specific tone, add it: "more formal," "playful but readable," "modern minimalist," "classical with traditional borders." The AI tunes accordingly.

Bulk-Print for the Whole Class

For institutions printing a whole graduating class, the bulk-merge flow is the use case. Required columns:

  • recipient_name — full name as you want it to appear (proper capitalization)
  • degree_or_program — what they completed (varies by graduate)
  • graduation_date — date of conferral

Optional columns add flexibility:

  • honors — Cum Laude, Dean's List, etc. Rows with empty honors render cleanly without blank space.
  • major or concentration — for college and specialty programs
  • _email_to — auto-emails each personalized certificate to the recipient

Most institutions design once per year and swap the CSV. The same template handles 25-graduate K-classes, 200-graduate high schools, and 500-graduate college cohorts.

Print and Frame Tips

  • Cardstock matters. 80lb minimum for a substantial feel. Office stores sell "certificate paper" specifically for this.
  • Test print first. Margins and color saturation can vary by printer — print one before you batch-print 200.
  • Frame size. Standard letter (8.5 × 11) and A4 fit the cheapest frames at every office store. Larger formats (11 × 14, 11 × 17) need specific frames.
  • For digital delivery, the PDF is high-resolution and email-friendly. Add _email_to to skip the print step entirely.

Frequently Asked Questions

What graduation levels does this work for?
Every level — preschool moving-up, kindergarten graduation, elementary, middle school, high school, associates, bachelors, masters, MBA, PhD, and any specialty program (bootcamps, certificate programs, continuing education). The AI tunes formality based on what you tell it.
Can I print certificates for the whole graduating class?
Yes. Upload a CSV with one row per graduate (name, degree, date). EZdoc generates one personalized PDF per row. A class of 100 takes about 90 seconds. A class of 500 takes about 8 minutes.
Will it work for non-US graduation traditions?
Yes. The AI accepts any institution name, language, and conferral tradition. You can specify Latin honors, non-English signatures, or institutional mottos in any language. UK "Bachelor of Arts (Hons)" works the same as US "Bachelor of Arts magna cum laude."
Can I make these for free?
Yes — three certificates free without paying. After that, $5 buys 4 credits, or $19/month gets you 8 monthly AI generations plus unlimited bulk merges from saved templates. For a whole graduating class, the bulk-merge flow is the path.
How does it handle the school's logo and colors?
Upload your school's logo as SVG or PNG. Tell the AI your school colors (e.g. "red and gold" or specific hex codes). The design threads them through borders, accent lines, and sometimes the institution-name typography.
Can I save the design to re-use next year?
Yes — that's how schools and programs use EZdoc most efficiently. Design once, save as a template, swap the CSV next year. The same design, refreshed for the new graduating class, takes one upload.
Is it actually a real diploma or a mock-up?
EZdoc produces a print-ready PDF that visually matches an institutional diploma. For ceremonial / display purposes it's identical. For a legally certified credential — the kind required by employers, licensing boards, or for credential verification — only the issuing institution's registrar can produce that, since it requires institutional record-keeping and seals.
