The Bachelor of Science is the most common US undergraduate STEM degree — roughly 1.1 million awarded each year across engineering, computer science, math, biology, and physics. Whether you're a registrar printing the whole class, a department recognizing your top graduates, or a graduate generating a framed copy for your wall, the design conventions are surprisingly consistent.

What a BS Certificate Should Include

The standard layout, in order from top to bottom:

1. Institution name and seal/logo, centered at the top
2. The conferral language — typically "Be it known that" or "The Trustees of [University] confer upon"
3. The recipient's name, in the largest type, often italic or formal serif
4. The degree — "Bachelor of Science" — usually with the major underneath
5. Latin honors, if applicable, in italic ("magna cum laude")
6. Date and location of conferral
7. Signatures — typically Dean, President, and sometimes Department Chair, with printed names and titles below
8. Optional: institutional motto in Latin or the school's traditional language

The "Long Major Name" Problem

STEM majors run long. "Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering" or "Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering" can break a centered layout if the typography isn't dynamic.
