Wedding work runs on trust, taste, and timing — but it still has to get paid. The trouble is that a wedding is almost never a single transaction. The wedding billing structure: retainer, balance, due before the date

The single thing that makes a wedding invoice different from a coffee-shop receipt is the retainer credit. You collected a non-refundable deposit at signing (commonly 25–50%) to hold the date. The final invoice should show your full service total, then subtract that retainer, then state the balance due. Common mistakes that cost wedding vendors money

• Burying the retainer in a note. If the credit isn't a clear line, couples assume the full total is owed — or worse, that they already paid. Show it as a subtracted credit with the balance spelled out.
• No due date relative to the event. "Net 30" from the invoice date can land after the wedding. Anchor the balance to the event date instead.
• Forgetting it's a referral piece. The couple's parents, and often other vendors, see this invoice. A plain spreadsheet undersells you. A clean, branded PDF reinforces that you're worth the price.
