• Parts — each with a part number, quantity, and unit price (your cost plus markup). List warranty/OEM vs. aftermarket so there's no dispute later.
• Labor — hours × your posted shop rate, ideally tied to a job (e.g. "Front brake pads & rotors — 1.8 hrs"). Flat-rate book times keep this honest.
• Shop supplies — a small flat or percentage line for rags, cleaners, and fasteners. Disclose it; don't hide it in labor.
• Disposal / hazmat fees — oil, coolant, tires, and batteries carry real disposal costs. Itemize them.
• Sales tax — applied to taxable parts (often not labor). Set your state rate once.

Estimate First, Then Invoice

Most states require a written, signed estimate before you can bill, and many cap how far over it you can go without re-authorization (often 10%).
