Bulk certificate generator for your spreadsheet
Upload an Excel file, CSV, or Google Sheets export with one row per recipient. EZdoc merges every row into your design and hands back hundreds of personalized, print-ready certificates — as one ZIP, or emailed to each person automatically.
One spreadsheet in, hundreds of certificates out
The spreadsheet already exists — the class list, the training roster, the attendee export. The slow part is turning each row into a certificate someone would actually frame. EZdoc's bulk certificate generator closes that gap: design the certificate once with the AI certificate maker, upload your Excel file or CSV, and get one personalized, print-ready PDF per row.
Names, dates, course titles, scores, honors — any column in your sheet becomes a field in the design. The full batch renders in parallel and arrives as a single ZIP, or goes straight to each recipient's inbox when your sheet includes an email column. It works with Excel (.xlsx), CSV, and Google Sheets exports, and it scales from a class of 25 to a company-wide program of thousands. For trigger-based issuance from an LMS, see certificate automation.
How to Generate Certificates From a Spreadsheet
If you have a list of people who earned a certificate — a class roster, a training-completion export, an attendee list — you already have everything a bulk certificate generator needs. The workflow is mail merge, minus the mail-merge ceremony: one design, one spreadsheet, one batch of personalized PDFs.
Step 1 — Design the certificate once
Start in the AI certificate maker and describe the certificate: the occasion, your organization, who signs it, your colors and logo. You get a print-ready design in about 30 seconds. Prefer to start from a finished layout? Browse the certificate template gallery — designs like the course completion and training completion templates are built for exactly this. Save whichever you pick as a Reusable Template and mark which fields vary per recipient.
Step 2 — Prepare your spreadsheet
One row per recipient, one column per detail you want on the certificate. A typical training-program sheet:
recipient_name,course_title,completion_date,score,_email_to

Priya Raman,OSHA 30-Hour Safety,June 12 2026,97,priya.r@example.com
...
Excel (.xlsx) and CSV files both work, and a Google Sheets export is just a CSV — nothing to reformat. The optional _email_to column tells EZdoc to email each finished certificate to that person automatically.
Step 3 — Upload and generate the batch
Upload the spreadsheet and EZdoc reads the headers, maps each column into the design, and renders every certificate in parallel. Two hundred certificates take about four minutes; five hundred take about eight. You get one print-ready PDF per row in a single ZIP — or, with an email column, each certificate lands in the right inbox on its own. This is the same engine behind our bulk PDF and mail-merge workflow, applied to certificates.
From Excel, Google Sheets, or any export
Any tool that can export a spreadsheet works: Excel, Google Sheets, Airtable, your LMS, your ticketing platform, a registrar's system. If your data lives in Google Sheets and stays there, you can connect the sheet directly and skip the export step — the next batch picks up the latest rows. And when issuance should happen the moment someone completes a course rather than at the end of a cohort, that's an automation problem — our certificate automation page covers trigger-based issuance through the REST API.
Why not Word mail merge or Canva?
Word's mail merge can produce certificates from a spreadsheet, but the setup is notoriously fiddly — field codes, linked data sources, layout shifts between machines — and the output is only as good as the Word design underneath it. Canva makes beautiful single certificates but has no bulk merge: five hundred names means five hundred hand-edits. EZdoc sits between the two: a designed, frame-worthy certificate from the AI, with a real spreadsheet merge behind it. One upload, every name spelled right.
After the batch
Next cohort, next class, next quarter's compliance cycle: keep the template, swap the spreadsheet, rerun. The design stays identical — which is exactly what you want when certificates carry your organization's name — and the only thing that changes is the roster. Five minutes, start to finish.
From idea to download in three steps
Design the certificate once — describe it to the AI (occasion, organization, signer, colors, logo) and save it as a Reusable Template
Upload your spreadsheet — Excel or CSV with one row per recipient; EZdoc detects the headers and maps name, date, course, and any custom fields
Download the batch — one personalized, print-ready PDF per row, delivered as a single ZIP or emailed to each recipient automatically
Everything you need, nothing in the way
Built for speed and polish — so the document is done before you would have finished formatting the first page.
Excel, CSV & Google Sheets
Upload .xlsx or .csv files — or export straight from Google Sheets. EZdoc reads your headers and maps each column into the certificate automatically.
One personalized PDF per row
Every recipient gets their own certificate — name, date, course, score — rendered from the same design, so the 500th looks exactly like the first.
Email delivery built in
Add an <code>_email_to</code> column and EZdoc sends each finished certificate to the matching recipient — no mail-merge add-ons, no BCC marathons.
Reuse the design next cohort
Save the certificate as a Reusable Template. Next term, swap in the new spreadsheet and rerun — the whole batch takes one upload.
Tweak with AI
Refine any result by chatting — "make it warmer", "add my logo top-right", "shorten the intro". The document updates in place.
Print-ready PDF
Export a clean, print-ready PDF, or publish your document as a one-page webpage — ready to send, share, or print.

Questions, answered plainly
How do I generate certificates from an Excel spreadsheet?
Put one row per recipient in your Excel file, with a column for each detail that varies — name, date, course title, score. Upload the .xlsx (or a CSV export) with your certificate template and EZdoc maps the columns into the design, then generates one personalized PDF per row. No macros, no Word mail merge.
Can I generate certificates from Google Sheets?
Yes — export your sheet as a CSV or .xlsx and upload it, or connect Google Sheets directly. Either way, each row becomes one personalized certificate, and updates to the sheet flow into the next batch you run.
Can the certificates be generated and sent automatically?
Yes. Add an _email_to column to your spreadsheet and EZdoc emails each finished certificate to the matching recipient after the batch renders. For fully automatic issuance — a certificate the moment someone finishes a course — your LMS can trigger merges through the REST API; see our certificate automation page.
Is this good for training programs and course certificates?
It's the most common use. L&D teams, bootcamps, and compliance trainers keep one template per program and merge a fresh roster at the end of each cohort — completion dates, module titles, and scores included. Hundreds of training certificates take minutes, not a workday.
How many certificates can I generate from one spreadsheet?
From a handful to thousands — 1,000+ from a single upload. A batch of 200 certificates typically finishes in about 4 minutes; 500 in about 8. Every PDF arrives together in one ZIP.
Do I get separate PDF files for each person?
Yes — one print-ready PDF per row, named from your data, zipped into a single download. No giant merged file to split by hand.
Is the bulk certificate generator free?
Yes to start: new accounts get 3 free Designs (AI generations) to create the certificate, plus 10 free Copies to try the spreadsheet merge. Paid plans (from $19/month) include a 1,000-Copy monthly bulk-merge allowance.
